Rabindranath Tagore

"Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky."
Rabindranath Tagore

In Sardinia, on the north-western coast, there is a place that I particularly like, especially in winter: Argentiera, a former mining area which still houses the old structures into disuse. Coming here on a gray day, with the sky full of clouds and the wind that blows strong and unabated, gives you the feeling of being in a place far from civilization. The decadent past dominates the landscape and the rocky and silver promontories are matched to the color of the indigo sea reflecting the sky in a storm.

For those who love the industrial archeology and the decadent architecture, this is the ideal place to explore. Here you will find dozens of abandoned buildings (my favorite is an old and white hotel that stands isolated overa hill, which can be seen in the third last photo). The abuse has also led to the construction of environmentally friendly monsters that have already been placed in a little harmonious area and have created a special atmosphere. The sea is clear; in sunny days everything shines because the silver reflects thousands of flashes. I recommend everyone to come here for a swim, go off and then turning around and wondering if by chance you've been teleported to another era.

I personally love the ruins, they give a fascinating air to a place, a little decadent, a little vintage. When I started to photography, the first time I went in search of abandoned places in the surrounding area of my city, with the same excitement of a child. Argentiera was among the first places I visited and I immediately fell in love with it. It is extravagant in winter: a unusual Sardinia for tourists, but normal for those who live here year-round, an area made of silence, wind between the houses uninhabited (summer ones and those now abandoned), melancholic beaches and nature that keeps company with you through crackles and wheezes. Then, in the summer it all comes back merrily and accesible to all visitors; the silence is broken, the sand is moved and there is a continual clamor, but the magic of the place remains, albeit in an altered form.

Luogo molto affascinante soprattutto, come dici tu, d'inverno.
