F.Braudel

"... hills of Tuscany, with their famous estates, villas, villages that are almost cities, in the most moving campaign that exists."
F.Braudel

In the last year spent in Tuscany I was able to appreciate the beauty of this land, rich in art, culture and nature. It is not easy to leave our land if the starting point is Sardinia, but I can say that my landing area is really beautiful in many ways. For a long time I have wanted to visit Florence and now I can say that I have explored quite well this city trying to admire all the most picturesque views. From Michelangelo Square, designed in 1869 by the Florentine architect Giuseppe Poggi and easily reached on foot or by bus, you can enjoy a wonderful view over the city's main attractions:

il famoso Ponte Vecchio e le sue suggestive botteghe orafe;

the famous Old bridge and its enchanting gold shops;

the Dome of the city, which is the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, which I love the colors...

...and the nature that surrounds and adorns the city (in the distance you can see the beautiful Tuscan hills and despite Florence is a big city, you do not feel oppressed by overbuilding typical of large cities).

Along the descent from the Square which takes you to the center of the city, you have to stop in the beautiful gardens you find along the way and especially in the spring, they are full of plants and flowers.

Once finished the descent, about ten minutes walk will take you to cross the Old Bridge, to be able to see up close.

The center of Florence is so rich in art to be amazed by how many things are concentrated in just a few minutes from each other such as the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella,

la Chiesa di San Lorenzo

the Church of San Lorenzo,

la Basilica di Santa Croce,

the Basilica of Santa Croce,

my absolute favorite square, Piazza della Signoria and the Old Palace,

la Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore.

the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.

And at night, in my opinion, the atmosphere becomes even more impressive! I could write pages and pages about the wonders of this city and so I recommend you to visit it if you get the chance! To learn more about exhibitions, museums, events, itineraries and other useful information you can visit the Tourist Portal of Florence that you find here. If, however, you need to find the most advantageous airfares to reach Tuscany you can take a look at Expedia website and log on here.

    Hey, there!

    I'm actually at work at the moment, relishing some downtime. Unfortunately, the computers at work no longer allow us to comment on blogs. Bummer, I know. Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I was able to few your latest posts (I've been absent myself for a few weeks).

    I love your photos of Florence! I remember my instructor showing us dozens and dozens of photos from that area. (She is originally from Torino, however.) The Old Bridge is definitely something I remember! I love larger cities, but if I were to visit Italy, I would almost prefer to visit the smaller ones, Florence, Torino, etc. Rome is another culture altogether. Also, of all the photos, my favorites are of the Piazza della Signoria e Palazzo Vecchio, which you said are your favorite. So ornate and beautiful!
    I read a couple of your other posts (including the one with old, snowy photos from Liguria). You have a way with words, my friend. As always.

    Take care, and have a good week,
