The Emerald Coast in summer is a surreal place. I want to start this post with this statement because I can not find another word more appropriate to describe it! For those who are not familiar, is the area located in the north-east of Sardinia, where the so-called celebrities, fake celebrities and rich people spend their holidays happily squandering their money without restraint. It's the land of excess, millionaire yachts, boutiques and glamorous parties. And I want to say that this is not Sardinia.

I want to say that this area is very beautiful from the point of view of the landscape and it has a beautiful sea; however, I advise you not to visit it during the months of July and August because you will not be able to really appreciate and enjoy this place! I find it to be excessively exploited to the point that it is difficult to fully enjoy the scenery. I was there in June and I'm in love with it, I returned there in August and I did not recognized it: a lot of yacht ruins the view of the sea, the car parks are all with fee (and I'm talking about high prices) and you have to fight to find one of them, the beaches of fine sand are totally transformed in Beach Clubs with a few meters free (of course, already occupied) and as everyone screams as jerks (rightly, you're on vacation and it is normal that you're shouting with your wife 100 meters away so that everyone can hear everything and they should themselves screams).

In addition, in those months this place place is full of trash people and situation: tamarri (I don't know the extact translation in English but I think that naff is good to indicate boys who are uncooly and rude concerning not only the look but also the manners) who pose as Riace bronzes to show their body and their skimpy costumes (possibly pea-green or any color that can compete with a highlighter), rich adolescents who try to smash their expensive big cars in the country roads and wink to the girls turned to the left while they are going to knock down pedestrians that pass in front of them, high prices in any local, tourists that squander money at random (for example, how beautiful it is to pay a sarong as a moped just because it's a name brand item), paunchy lifeguards who try to hide the belly but they remain fat, beaitiful stone houses occupied exclusively for two miserable months, people who can not drive and challenge fate to crash and feel cool on vacation.

Well, this is not Sardinia! It's a part of our land that is fed to people who do not really appreciate! Obviously, I am referring to the prototypes I described above because I know that in contrast to that category there are those who love this area for its culture, its nature, its people, and not just for the aura of wealth that characterized it for few months a year. For those who are not Sardinian may seem like a stupid argument, but it is not right to exploit a place depriving it of its true identity and then leaving him to itself for the rest of the year. This area has a soul like the rest of Sardinia, the soul that has been trampled to bring forth a model of tourism similar to that of many other destinations exploited excessively, and without a plan to leverage it. It's a kind of throwaway made to a land with a long history; you squeeze it with arrogance and then leave it to its fate characterized by loneliness and an economic crisis that is irreparable.

The real potential remains hidden among the beautiful granite rocks and the Mediterranean unspoilt nature, among the winding paths that lead to the beaches and the breathtaking views overlooking the sea. This is the true and the only Emerald Coast! The rest is a sitcom in the open air that is not ours and is shot against our will!

The only form of tourism that can bring prosperity and development in an island like Sardinia should follow the principles of sustainability. We live far away from everyone and everything immersed in the wilderness: you can travel for miles and miles without seeing a house or a sign of civilization and what dominates the landscape is the earth as it was thousands of years ago. This is a treasure of immense wealth and it is the only thing that should be presented to tourists. It makes no sense to build luxury resort or reign of luxury that have nothing in common with the spirit of this island, and every form of tourism should be adapted to the surrounding environment in such a way as to preserve the wealth and the potentials without imprison its true soul.

Costa Smeralda, we love you (ma solo per scherzo, vero Chià?).

That day in Emerald Coast was fun because I like trash: in its ugliness is almost fascinating with all its ridiculous flaws. Costa Smeralda, we love you (but only as a joke, isn't it, Chiara?). Finally, the flaws of a place allow us to appreciate more the beautiful
things.
